Bath County High School Wind Turbine Design Team
Categories: Bath County, Workforce Readiness and Career & Technical Education | 2016
Students are designing and building wind turbines to compete in KidWind events. The students are from four disciplines- Technology, Electricity, Carpentry, and Business. All groups do basic research. Technology focuses on designing gear systems to maximize output and prints out 3D gears they have designed. Electricity focuses on designing the generator to be as efficient as possible. Carpentry focuses on the fabrication of the design. Business focuses on promotion and information and has designed posters, pamphlets, and fund raising raffle tickets for the enterprise. The students from each discipline have to communicate with and work with each other in order for the project to be successful. This emulates what the students will be required to do after they graduate from high school and provides students with concrete examples and the opportunity to practice the workplace readiness skills outlined for all CTE classes.
