1st Annual iDCPS Conference

Categories: Dinwiddie County | 2017

Dinwiddie County Public Schools held its 1st Annual iDCPS Conference on August 25-26, 2016, at Dinwiddie High School for all employees.  The theme was “What Starts Here Changes the World.”  The 5 conference strands of sessions (iSuccess, iEngagement, iEfficacy, iExcellence, & iCommunity) were based on innovation, thinking, and incorporated the major areas of the Division Strategic Plan.  The conference began with an Opening Session to kick start the 120 interactive workshops and sessions, which would take place over the course of both days.  During the Closing Session, the “20 to Watch” award winners were recognized.     The 71 presenters for the conference included teachers, secretaries, administrators, school board members, paraprofessionals, transportation drivers, technology, instructional technology resource teachers, nurses, guidance counselors, community agencies, and outside vendors.    A cross functional Conference Planning Team worked hard to make this conference a success through frequent planning sessions and strategic coordinated efforts.

Books To The Bus Project

Categories: Dinwiddie County | 2017

The Title I team in Dinwiddie County began the "Books On The Bus" project the summer of 2016. This project focused on delivering books throughout the summer to students. The team worked with transportation to target areas of highest need. Once this was determined, teachers, principals, and and central office staff boarded buses and went throughout the county to put books and donated school supplies into the hands of students. While at each stop, staff read to students and worked with families to share the importance of summer reading. This program evolved into the "Books To The Bus" project once school began fall of 2016. Teachers board buses on a rotating basis each 9 weeks to put books into the hands of our young students and share "read on your ride" fun.  As this program grows, we aspire to have hot spots and electronic reading devices that we can rotate throughout the county in the near future.
