Lee-Davis High School Agriculture

Categories: Hanover County | 2017

The Lee-Davis Agriculture Program is an innovate program that emphasizes STEM in an applicable setting.  Our main objective is to prepare students for successful careers related to agriculture through Plant Systems and Power Structural Pathways.  We cater to a wide variety of learners through differentiated instruction using skill sets and technology common to industry standards.  Recently our greenhouse irrigation systems had been updated to conserve water, and demonstrate alternative methods of production.  Our Agriculture Mechanics and Plant based classes emphasize math and science through project based learning.  All the while, we are a co-curricular course instilling leadership to our students through the FFA (Future Farmers of America), and have been successful in many FFA Competitions.  Our students are actively giving back to the community, and engaged through outside-the-class learning through the Supervised Agricultural Experience Program.  Noteworthy projects: building a retaining wall, replacing bleachers, and landscaping the Welcome to Mechanicsville sign.

TV99 Internship

Categories: Hanover County | 2017

The TV99 Internship brings students together from all Hanover County high schools to produce news, sports, and entertainment programs as well as promotional videos and PSA’s that cover the good news in Hanover schools. The program has demonstrated improvement in student achievement by placing the interns in the hands-on, real world environment of a local access television station and taught them to produce air-quality work by collaborating as a team to create professional video projects. They use all of the technology of studio production (cameras, editors, sound boards, lights, switchers, etc.) as they learn workforce readiness skills for the Broadcasting Industry. They strengthen their responsibility, critical thinking, and problem solving skills as they tackle field productions and the unpredictable world of video on location. The internship has helped these student achieve elevated success as is evidenced by their awards as State Level winners from the VHSL, VSBA, and Not4Me competitions.
