MPHS and NVCC Pathway to CyberSecurity

Categories: Manassas Park City, Workforce Readiness and Career & Technical Education | 2016

The Virginia Department of Education reports that there are more than 17,000 unfilled jobs in CyberSecurity related fields in Virginia. In order to help students prepare to fill this need, Manassas Park High School and Northern Virginia Community College have partnered to provide course work that will lead students to degrees or certifications in cyber technology. Startup funding for the project has been provided by the Micron Corporation. The pilot kicked off this January and includes eighteen students enrolled in two introductory dual enrollment courses, ITE 115 and ITN 100. These courses are taught by NVCC staff at MPHS during the regular school day. Phase two, to be implemented in 2016-2017, will provide a pathway for a cohort of students to complete coursework toward earning an Associate of Applied Science Degree in CyberSecurity. The goal is for students to complete the majority of program requirements before graduation from high school.
