Career Connections…C2 Your Future

Categories: Martinsville City, Workforce Readiness and Career & Technical Education | 2016

Description:

Career Connections…C2 Your Future, is the Martinsville City Public Schools program to give students the opportunity to develop their skills in the Four C’s (collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity), earn an industry specific certification that can benefit them for future employment, receive college credit through dual enrolled courses, and to participate in Career and Technical Student Organizations related to their program. This program is the gateway to future employment, community college or a four-year college or university. It helps students make connections between what they are learning in school and the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful in the future. MHS has seen an increase in students earning industry certifications and increased participation in dual enrollment CTE classes which give them a strong foundation for future employment or continued education.

Martinsville High School Internship Program

Categories: Martinsville City, Workforce Readiness and Career & Technical Education | 2016

Description:

The Martinsville High School Internship Program gives students the opportunity to apply the learning from their high school coursework into a meaningful and on-thejob experience. Students are responsible for finding a business or organization willing to host them for a nonpaid internship for a semester. The student is responsible for completing necessary paperwork, maintaining a daily record of activities through the Educational Activities Log and, in conjunction with the employer, establishing well-defined learning objectives relative to the course of study. This experience is invaluable to students as they make plans for their future education and employment. We have observed an increased level of accountability and maturity in those students participating in this program. Coursework across subject areas benefits from the increased attention to time management and preparation for the future.
