DAYMAC (Developing Amazing Young Minds through Apple ConnectED)

Categories: Norfolk City, Workforce Readiness and Career & Technical Education | 2016

Description:

Berkley Campostella Early Childhood Education Center (BCECC) is 1 of 114 schools in the nation and the only Mid-Atlantic school awarded the White House ConnectEd Initiative Apple and AT&T Grants, for their DAYMAC program. DAYMAC will enable BCECC to provide a comprehensive 1:1 technology solution for every student and teacher, including hardware, software, professional development, and free cellular services for every student’s home. In addition, DAYMAC will assist with closing the technical gap as well as the digital divide and enhance technology infused lessons with a STEM focus. Through DAYMAC, enrichment and tiered instruction is implemented daily, with rigorous classroom instruction and the Teddy Bear Club. The Teddy Bear Club is a Response To Intervention program that provides Tiered instruction for all students, in order to maximize optimal academic success. Like wise, parental involvement is encouraged and supported by providing technical workshops and strategies that parents can use at home.

Norfolk Technical Centers Connecting High School to College and Career Initiative

Categories: Norfolk City, Workforce Readiness and Career & Technical Education | 2016

Description:

Norfolk Technical Center (NTC) is committed to providing a bridge from high school to college and career for all students. By combining rigorous instruction, hands on training, and partnerships with community organizations we are able to provide a comprehensive and exciting program of study for all of our students. NTC has two signature events that promote and prepare our students for life after high school. The first event is our annual College and Career fair. NTC hosts over sixty colleges and business. Students spend the morning visiting and speaking with the colleges and businesses. Our second event is our annual Mock Interviews. Each senior student participates in a Mock Interview. Many of our College and Career fair participants serve as interviewers. These two events expose our students to life after high school, give them confidence, and provide them information to make informed decisions regarding college and careers.
