How Henrico Schools officials are handling student behavioral problems on buses

Students have violated behavioral standards on Henrico County school buses more than 830 times during the current school year, and those incidents have resulted in disciplinary action slightly more than two-thirds of the time, according to data obtained by the Henrico Citizen.

Galax receives first electric bus

After a delay due to supply chain issues, Galax City Schools finally got its first electric school bus – and it came equipped with almost everything but spitballs. Leah Henck, Larry Spangler and Brett Sexton of the Galax City School Board, along with Schools Superintendent Susan Tilley, took a ride on it half an hour before the April school board meeting on Tuesday.

Carter appointed as new Franklin City Public Schools superintendent 

Dr. Carlton Carter was formally named as the superintendent of Franklin City Public Schools on Thursday, March 30. An FCPS news release stated that this was announced early that evening by Franklin City School Board Chairman Robert Holt at the start of a joint meeting between the board and the Franklin City Council.

Annual Envirothon competition returns to Augusta County schools

Envirothon season is upon us.

The annual Envirothon event returns to Augusta County Public Schools on Wednesday for high school levels and Thursday for middle school levels at Natural Chimney's Park & Campground from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Red light, school zone cameras approved, coming to Prince William Co. by summer

Drivers in a hurry, take notice because school and highway zone speed cameras, and red light enforcement cameras are coming to Prince William County, Virginia.

On Tuesday, the Board of County Supervisors approved a one-year pilot program that will start this summer to install automated enforcement cameras in nine initial school zones, and eight proposed initial intersections for red light cameras.

'Disturbing and discouraging': No state budget means more cuts for Waynesboro schools

WAYNESBORO — During most of the budget season, Waynesboro Public Schools' Superintendent Jeffrey Cassell has tried to remain positive. As Virginia's General Assembly dragged its feet on approving revisions to the biennial budget, school divisions were left with few answers to their many questions as they tried to pass their own budgets.

LCPS board asked to avoid cutting special education teachers

Loudoun County Public Schools speech therapists say they're overworked and conditions will worsen if the school board approves cutting 10 speech therapist positions. 

About a dozen of the therapists, who work with special education students, attended the April 11 board meeting to denounce the cuts. The positions were paid for with federal COVID-19 relief money which has expired.

Southampton High School’s Student Council Association participates in Read Across America

On Thursday, March 2, throughout the Southampton County Public Schools District and nationwide, students were celebrating Read Across America Day. Southampton High School’s Student Council Association (SCA) members read to students from kindergarten to fifth grade.  

Multiple Chesterfield school buses vandalized, police searching for suspects

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) -18 Chesterfield County school buses are now inoperable after police say they were vandalized last month, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

Bedford Students Headed to State History Day

The Bedford History Day Club went to regional competition on March 25 at Central Virginia Community College and showed their stuff! All 5 projects from the group are moving forward to state competition in Richmond in April. Students from Liberty High School and World Community Education Center in Bedford competed individually or in groups to create a website, documentary, or a performance related to this year’s theme: Frontiers in History. The competition was well-attended, but the Bedford students all competed successfully.
