As local school division officials try to polish their final spending plans near the end of budget season, they are stuck in a state of uncertainty because localities don't know how much funding they will receive from the state.

GO TEC held its first ever robotics competition at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville. 12 teams from Martinsville and Franklin, Pittsylvania, Halifax, Grayson, Cumberland, and Wythe counties were at the event.

RICHMOND, Va. (WDBJ) - The Virginia Board of Education is getting closer to approving new standards of learning for history and social science. Wednesday afternoon, board members reviewed yet another version of the proposed standards during a work session in Richmond.

YORK COUNTY - Craig Reynolds, a fifth grade teacher at Magruder Elementary in York County, was named the 2024 Teacher of the Year for Region 2 on Monday. The award puts him in the running with seven other finalists for the statewide honor. The announcement was made during a surprise visit to Reynolds' school Monday afternoon.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - Brunswick County Public Schools has announced the winner of Teacher of the Year for Virginia's Region VIII. Tequisha Stiles, an 8th-grade English teacher at James Solomon Russell Middle School, was named as one of the eight finalists for Virginia's Teacher of the Year 2024 - and the winner of Virginia Region VIII.

Loudoun County school board members and county supervisors are discussing a memorandum of understanding about school safety and school sexual assaults.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) -Students at a Lynchburg City elementary school helped to make the community a better place on Wednesday. Students at Robert S. Payne Elementary School helped plant an urban forest garden at the school. According to the district,, the school is in a food desert and this garden will not only benefit the students, but the community as a whole.
