VDOE to release new version of K-12 history standards this week

Gov. Glenn Youngkin's administration anticipates releasing this week an updated draft of state history standards, a document that when finalized will guide the teaching of history in Virginia's K-12 schools.

LCPS attendance zone changes approved

School attendance zone changes were approved by the Loudoun County Public Schools board on Dec. 13. The changes were made to reduce current and projected overcrowding at Loudoun County High School at 415 Dry Mill Road SW in Leesburg. It has about 2,900 students.

Rocky Run Elementary principal transforms into Ricky the Elf

The Rocky Run Elementary School student was excited to tell visitors to the school that he found Ricky the Elf that morning. "He was camping!" the student exclaimed, before running off to tell someone else.

Maintenance issues affect two Spotsylvania schools

Building maintenance issues have disrupted two Spotsylvania County schools in the past week. On Dec. 14, a sewage backup affected one wing of Massaponax High School. and Smith Station Elementary opened yesterday with no heat, because of a "missed propane refill," according to division spokesperson Jon Russell.

Waynesboro PD partners with local schools to brighten some students' holiday

The Waynesboro Police Department and Waynesboro Schools joined forces Monday to offer a better Christmas for 10 Kate Collins Middle School students and their families.

State commission on rules objects to Youngkin's K-12 transgender policy

A state commission that reviews administrative rules voted 5-4 along party lines on Monday to object to the Youngkin administration's proposed K-12 transgender policy.
