Washington County honors teachers of the year

The Washington County School Board recognized teachers of the year across the county during Monday's meeting. Superintendent Brian Ratliff and Assistant Superintendent Jeff Noe thanked supporters who attended the meeting.

Prince William County Schools officials say an accidental oversight delayed notification of National Merit commendations for 28 high school students, months after the commendations were originally awarded and schools were supposed to tell students.

City School Board Hears Solutions for Low Teacher Morale

After many focus groups, surveys, an outside firm and an advisory counsel, Harrisonburg City Public Schools unveiled some proposed changes to increase staff morale. Staff morale has been a national, state and local issue since prior to the pandemic, but the pandemic certainly put even more pressure on teachers.

Student behavior out of control, Newport News teachers and community members say

In a public comment session that lasted nearly three hours, the community spoke out in anger and frustration about what they say is an unsafe and unsupportive environment. Speakers voiced their concerns during the emotionally charged meeting, the district's first scheduled since the shooting incident.

Dual enrollment education will be getting a boost in the Roanoke Valley this year. Hollins University announced that $428,000 will help in that mission in a partnership with Virginia Western Community College.

A candidate campaigning for a spot on the Fairfax County School Board is responding to claims he attacked the LGBTQ+ community by posing as the parent of a transgender child in a phone call to a local medical clinic.

Richmond school board gives update on Fox, George Wythe, cell phone policy

The school board for Richmond Public Schools gave an update on Fox Elementary and the new Wythe High School at a meeting. The board released photos of the inside of Fox Elementary and the proposed design of what the reconstructed school could look like when it's done.

WPS administration moves into former Douglas School

Angie Cain cried Tuesday morning as she talked about how wonderful it was to be back home again. Cain, the early childhood coordinator for Winchester Public Schools, was standing in the former Douglas School at 598 N. Kent St., which has been renovated and expanded into a 33,221-square-foot facility that is now the school system's new Central Administrative Office.
