The Rockingham County School Board is set to hold a special meeting to take the next step in the search for the school division's next superintendent. The purpose of the meeting is to decide whether to approve a contract with a firm that will aid in the superintendent search.

The Newport News School Board is seeking applications to fill the South District seat on the body after the resignation of John R. Eley III, who stepped down after being elected to City Council in November. An interim member will be appointed until a special election is held Nov.

Sculptor chosen for Capitol statue of teen who fought school segregation

A Maryland artist has been chosen to create a statue for the U.S. Capitol of the Black teenage girl whose defiance of the blighted conditions at her all-Black Virginia high school in 1951 helped outlaw school segregation across the country.

Portsmouth School Board Accepting Applications

The Portsmouth School Board is accepting applications to fill a vacancy after a former member took a seat on the city council. Applications are being accepted through Jan. 18 for the interim appointment to replace Vernon Tilllage Jr.
