RPS aims to limit exits with hiring bonuses

Richmond Public Schools leadership is continuing efforts to address an ongoing shortage of teachers and support staff throughout the city’s school system.

Former school aide charged with assault and battery after allegedly “grabbing student by the neck and shoulders”

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - A former instructional aide at a Roanoke County Public School is facing assault and battery charges. A school incident report states the aide grabbed a four-year-old by the shoulders and neck.

More high school graduates just saying no to higher education

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – More high school graduates are saying no to higher education and yes to the workforce.

According to the Wall Street Journal, in 2009 college enrollment for high school graduates was over 70%; it fell to just over 66% in 2019, and last year only 62% of high school graduates enrolled at the nation’s colleges and universities.

FCPS leaders asking for $435M bond referendum in fall

Besides the passel of candidates vying for positions on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, School Board, General Assembly and constitutional offices, voters also likely will be asked to pass the largest school-bond referendum in Fairfax County's history.

Virginia Beach Public Schools plans to replace four oldest buildings in the division

People in Virginia Beach have the chance to share their thoughts on three new schools.

The plan is to replace four of the oldest schools in the division with brand new buildings-- Princess Anne High School, Bayside High School, Bettie Williams Elementary and the Bayside Sixth Grade Campus.

Bishop retires as CCPS superintendent; Catlett to succeed him

BERRYVILLE — After nine years in the position, Chuck Bishop is retiring as superintendent of the Clarke County Public Schools (CCPS) effective June 30.

During a special meeting Tuesday night, the School Board accepted Bishop's resignation in a unanimous vote.

Report on Virginia public education standards and policies overdue - Virginia Mercury

Over a four-month period in 2022, Virginia leaders in education and workforce development held a series of meetings to provide recommendations to Gov. Glenn Youngkin's administration on improving state K-12 education. Asked about the report last month, Gov. Glenn Youngkin's office did not provide an update on its status or why it hasn't been released.

Five seniors give co-valedictory addresses at Tunstall High School graduation

Tunstall High School graduated 182 seniors during its commencement Saturday morning at Averett University's E. Stuart James Grant Center. "Hello graduates," Emma Reece Dowdy said to her fellow seniors at the start of her co-valedictory address. "Today, we become adults." Dowdy was one of five seniors giving co-valedictory addresses during the ceremony.

Virginia High School student becomes honorary member of the Guardian Riders

The Guardian Riders told News 5 they also wanted to meet Levi after hearing his story of "speeding" in school.

The Guardian Riders is a victims advocate club, saying they work to stand in the gap between victims and the abusers -- and to help the ones who can't help themselves
