U.S. Secretary of Education surprises RPS elementary school with honor

A special visitor met students and staff at Oak Grove-Bellemeade Elementary school on Tuesday afternoon. U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona parked in Richmond's South Side for a few hours as part of his "Road to Success Back to School Bus Tour."

Construction projects at local high schools underway

Washington County School Board members reviewed construction updates at two high schools during Monday's meeting. New entrances and other updates are coming to John S. Battle High School and Abingdon High School this school year. Construction at Battle, near Bristol, is moving fast, Chad Wallace, the school system's director of human resources and operations, said.

APS oh so close to fully filling teacher ranks - Sun Gazette

Unless schools have moved to the "close-enough" theory of mathematics, the Arlington school system opened the school year just short of its goal of 100-percent teacher staffing. Over 90% of Fairfax County, Virginia, parents who responded to a family engagement survey agreed their child feels safe at school and their child's school is safe. Kathleen Walts, executive director of Fairfax County Public Schools' Office of Professional Learning and Equity, presented findings from the spring 2022 Family Engagement Survey to the school board Tuesday afternoon.

Governor's office to Botetourt County: School building needs a local issue

Asked for suggestions about finding funds to improve Botetourt County Public Schools facilities, the governor's office reaffirmed that school buildings in Virginia are a matter of local control.
