Juvenile charged after threats lead to searches, early dismissal for William Fleming High School

Roanoke police have charged a female juvenile with two felonies connected to threats made Wednesday against William Fleming High School, which was locked down and searched. Police said Wednesday afternoon that they sought a petition against the 14-year-old girl for threatening by writing or electronic message to kill or do harm.

Arrests, incidents up in 2nd half of Alexandria's school year - WTOP News

Alexandria City Public Schools have released their latest round of safety data, which covers the third and fourth quarters of last school year. That data, which will be presented to the school board on Thursday, shows that there were 194 reported incidents, up slightly from 191 in the first and second quarters.

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - The Virginia Council on Economic Education is seeking candidates to join its new Virginia Personal Finance Teacher Fellowship Program. As a personal finance teacher fellow, the educator will offer personal finance and professional development resources to other educators in their school, school division or region.

Richmond School Board backs commission on status of Latino students

The Richmond School Board unanimously adopted a proposal Monday night to create a community-wide Commission on the Status of Latino students in Richmond Public Schools. The Board voted to accept the proposal as presented by the Richmond Region League of United Latin American Citizens to form the commission, with additional flexibility to add more members as appropriate, including teachers, school board members and community advocates.

Blair Dickens is the 16-year-old daughter of Doug and Tina Dickens. She is a junior at the Governor's School of Southside Virginia and Greensville County High School. Dickens is active in many activities including dance, tennis, and is a published author. However, community service is one of her favorite things to do.

Dozens of schools across US receiving false threats; at least 10 in VA, multiple in North Carolina

(WGHP) - False calls designed to trigger huge police responses, AKA "swatting," have been a problem for some time, but now schools appear to be the target of increasing false threats. On Monday, 10 schools across Virginia reported threats, many resulting in police response or lockdowns. None of them were determined to be credible.
