Walking lessons for CCS

A crossing guard, a scooter driver and a third-grade pedestrian walk into a gym class... That was the scene at Jackson-Via Elementary School on Wednesday morning, as students took their second walking safety lesson of the new school year. All Charlottesville schools offer the three-lesson safety course to all nine schools for all grade levels.

Hanover School Board passes policy to give board final say over each transgender student's access to bathroom

The Hanover County School Board voted 5-2 to adopt a policy that will require transgender students to submit a written request to school administration asking for access to the schools' facilities that align with the students' gender identities. Staunton High School's Lori Peltonen, a library/media specialist and educator for 30 years, is the 2023 Region V Teacher of the Year. Peltonen, according to a press release, served as a middle school teacher for 13 years and a media specialist for 17 years.

Richmond Crusade for Voters has a list of demands for RPS

On Wednesday, the Richmond Crusade for Voters announced a list of demands for Richmond Public Schools, including an immediate audit of student enrollment and attendance from 2015 to 2022 and an audit of the school board's budget pertaining to the division's strategic plan.
