Board of DirectorsKathleen Beane, Task Force on Collective Bargaining

Kathleen Beane grew up in Richmond County and spent her career in public education mainly in the Northern Neck. She began as a teacher for fifteen years and served the last fifteen in a variety of administrative positions. Upon retirement in 2016, Mrs. Beane worked part-time for the Virginia Department of Education in school improvement and was appointed to the Richmond County School Board, currently serving as a member of the Regional Special Education Board and the Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School. Mrs. Beane has been a past Eastern Region Chair for the VSBA and is currently the chair of the Taskforce for Collective Bargaining. She has achieved Master Board status and the Board of Distinction through VSBA.  Richmond County was awarded School Board of the Year for 2025 at the VSBA Conference in Williamsburg.

Retirement did not mean being put out to pasture, so when the opportunity came knocking to consider a school board position, there was no hesitation. Mrs. Beane feels she can still contribute to improving students’ educational experiences because of her diverse background and understanding of instructional practices. In her spare moments, she is active in her church as clerk of the session and choir director and enjoys time with her husband, four daughters, and five grandsons.
