A native of Danville, Virginia, Tyrell Payne has long been committed to advancing his community and ensuring those around him have the opportunity to soar. A proud 2003 graduate of George Washington High School, his passion for leadership and service began there. He has served on the Danville School Board for five years, including two years as Vice Chair (2023–2024). He also served as the Southern Region Vice Chair of the Virginia School Boards Association (2024–2025). Payne was elected the Southern Region Chair of the Virginia School Boards Association for 2026 and 2027.

In addition, Payne is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Community Improvement Council/Head Start (CIC) and the Vice Chair of the Transportation Advisory Committee. Payne is a licensed notary for the Commonwealth of Virginia and is employed by Sovah Health as the Medical Student Coordinator. He also serves as the Office Manager of the D.L. McLaughlin Funeral Home and Crematorium, Southside Location, in Danville, Virginia. Guided by service and leadership, he remains committed to uplifting Danville and helping it reach its fullest potential.
