Emily Gibbs, a member of Powhatan High School’s Class of 2026, has embraced the academic, leadership, athletic, and service opportunities offered through public education to prepare herself for a future dedicated to leadership and service.
Throughout high school, Emily challenged herself with a rigorous schedule of Honors, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment courses while earning a 4.44 GPA and AP Scholar recognition. Her interest in health sciences extended beyond the classroom through medical research at Virginia Commonwealth University and volunteer experience at St. Francis Hospital. She also earned national recognition at the National Student Leadership Conference, where she won the 2025 Public Health Proposal Project.
Emily’s impact is equally evident in her school and community. As president of the Interact Club, she led an initiative that raised more than $1,200 to create blankets for hospitalized children. She has also organized fundraising efforts benefiting veterans and families of fallen heroes, mentored fellow students as a tutor, competed in FBLA, and served in several honor societies. As a multi-sport athlete and team captain, she has developed the discipline, resilience, and teamwork that complement her academic achievements.
The teachers, programs, extracurricular activities, athletics, and leadership opportunities Emily experienced at Powhatan High School have helped shape her into a student committed to serving others. She plans to continue that commitment at the United States Naval Academy, carrying with her the foundation built through her public education experience.
