Palmyra, VA – Dr. Peter Gretz was appointed as the next superintendent of Fluvanna County Public Schools at tonight’s school board meeting. His new position will be effective July 1, 2021.
Gretz has 29 years of experience working in public education in Virginia. Gretz has served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, director of curriculum instruction/student services, and assistant superintendent across Virginia in Washington County, Orange County, Buckingham County, Goochland County, and Middlesex County. Since 2016, he has served as the Superintendent for Middlesex County Public Schools.
“It is an honor and privilege to be chosen to serve the Fluvanna schools and community,” Gretz commented. “I look forward to joining an exceptional team and working together to maximize the potential of our schools. My family and I can’t wait to become active members of the Fluvanna community!”
Perrie Johnson, chair of the Fluvanna County School Board, believes Dr. Gretz’s experience will be a great asset for the division. She stated, “The Fluvanna School Board is excited to welcome Dr. Peter Gretz, a leader with years of experience as a successful superintendent and an inspirational vision for Fluvanna County Public Schools.”
Gretz earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Virginia Tech, a Master of Arts in Education Leadership from East Tennessee State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Emory and Henry College.
The Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) assisted the school board with the superintendent search process.
