Three Architectural Projects Earn State Awards

Charlottesville, VA –Three standout architectural designs have earned top honors in the 2025 Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Exhibition of School Architecture. These winning projects showcase innovative design in new construction, renovation, and adaptive reuse of existing spaces, reflecting the future of educational environments. Selected from nine outstanding entries submitted by eight architectural firms, these award-winning designs will be showcased at the VSBA Annual Convention in Williamsburg, VA, November 19-21, 2025. This year’s competition is proudly sponsored by First Citizens Bank.

Platinum Design Award: Moseley for Innovation Elementary School, Prince William County Public Schools
Prince William County Public Schools’ Innovation Elementary School is a three-story prototype designed to accommodate 800–850 students while efficiently fitting on compact sites. This adaptable prototype will be replicated throughout the county to support continued population growth.

Gold Design Award: Grimm + Parker Architects for Rocktown High School, Harrisonburg City Public Schools
Rocktown High School (RHS) is more than a place to learn—it’s a living teaching tool that empowers authentic, real-world, project-based, and student-driven education. Designed to expand opportunities for a diverse student and community population, its flexible, transformable spaces encourage presentation, performance, and active learning. RHS is built not just for today’s students, but for the innovators and changemakers of the 21st century and beyond.

Silver Design Award: Moseley for Patrick Henry K-8 School and Recreation Center, Alexandria City Public Schools
Patrick Henry K-8 School and Recreation Center is the product of a close collaboration between Moseley, Alexandria City Public Schools, and the local community. Designed as a true community hub, the facility seamlessly integrates a modern school and recreation center under one roof to serve students and residents alike.
