2025 VSBA Food for Thought Competition Winners Announce
Winners Recognized at the VSBA Conference on Education
Charlottesville, VA – Six school divisions have received top honors in the 2025 Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Food for Thought Competition. These recognitions were announced earlier today at the 40th VSBA Conference on Education held in Short Pump.
Established in 2012, the VSBA Food for Thought Competition aims to educate, engage, and empower school leaders in addressing childhood hunger and ensuring healthier, more nutritious school meals for all students in Virginia. This year marks the 13th anniversary of the awards, which were proudly sponsored by the Virginia Lottery.
This year’s competition focused on Meal Access to Fight Hunger and featured three categories: Breakfast Programs, Afterschool Meal Programs, and Mental Health and Nutrition Initiatives. The school divisions recognized for their outstanding contributions in these areas are:
Breakfast Programs
Winner (Below 10,000 Student Population) – Colonial Beach Public Schools
Winner (Above 10,001 Student Population) – Virginia Beach City Public Schools
Afterschool Meal Programs
Winner (Below 10,000 Student Population) – Pulaski County Public Schools
Winner (Above 10,001 Student Population) – Hampton City Public Schools
Mental Health and Nutrition Initiatives
Winner (Below 10,000 Student Population) – Culpeper County Public Schools
Winner (Above 10,001 Student Population) – Norfolk City Public Schools
