VSBA Board of Directors Eastern Region Regional Scholarship Recipient Announced

Charlottesville, VA – The Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) proudly announces Kaylee Bishop, a senior at Caroline High School in Caroline County Public Schools, as the 2026 VSBA Board of Directors Regional Scholarship recipient for the VSBA Eastern Region. Bishop was recognized last night during the VSBA Eastern Region Spring Network Forum and will receive a $5,000 scholarship to support her post-secondary education.

An exceptional scholar, leader, and advocate, Bishop is a published poet and award-winning photographer. Her work has been featured in the Virginia Writers Project and displayed at the Port Royal Museum’s Labors of Love exhibit. She serves as President of the National Honors Society and is a youth leader with Virginia’s Y Street program, where she has led service initiatives and statewide health advocacy campaigns impacting hundreds of students.

Bishop plans to attend Duke University to study environmental science and policy, with the goal of bridging hard science and social impact to address global environmental challenges.

“Receiving the VSBA Board of Directors Regional Scholarship means more to me than just an award,” said Bishop. “It represents years of pushing myself to meet high expectations and constantly striving to improve. There were moments when the pressure felt heavy, and I had to learn how to balance excellence with perseverance. This scholarship reminds me that the effort, the late nights, and the self-discipline truly mattered. I feel honored and deeply grateful.”

VSBA Eastern Region Chair and King William County School Board Member Veda Frazier praised Bishop’s accomplishments and commitment to service. “Kaylee exemplifies the very best of our Eastern Region students. Her academic excellence, creative talents, and dedication to improving the lives of others make her truly deserving of this recognition. We are incredibly proud to support her future endeavors.”

VSBA Executive Director Gina Patterson stated, “The VSBA is proud to recognize Kaylee Bishop as the Eastern Region scholarship recipient. Her dedication to her academics, leadership, and service reflects the strong values we strive to support through this scholarship program. We congratulate her on this well-deserved honor and wish her continued success as she begins this exciting next chapter.”
