Required Reading for School Board Members

VSBA employs a full-time attorney who provides legal information and limited consultation for school board members and superintendents in divisions which are members of the VSBA Legal Assistance Fund.

The VSBA Legal Assistance Fund also offers assistance in legal cases that have a statewide impact on school board authority. Participating members are eligible to receive financial aid for cases at the appellate level, amicus curiae (friend of the court) briefs, or a combination of these services.

School board members interested in information on legal issues should contact Elizabeth Ewing at Ewing@vsba.org.

The Council of School Attorneys provides a network for school attorneys as well as seminars concerning educational law.
