THE CITY
Norfolk Virginia is a city of some 235,000 residents and encompasses 66 square miles. It has seven miles of Chesapeake Bay beachfront and a total of 144 miles of shoreline along their lakes, rivers, and the Bay. Much of this land is located in residential neighborhoods. Norfolk is home to the world’s largest naval base and the North American Headquarters for NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University and a downtown campus of Tidewater Community College are located in Norfolk and Virginia Wesleyan University is located on the border between Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

IMPORTANT NOTE: To be appointed as a superintendent in VIRGINIA, one must be listed on the “Eligible List of Division Superintendents” approved by the Virginia Board of Education. The Board of Education only meets eight or nine times per year which can cause delays in processing the applications for licensure. We encourage you to reach out ASAP to the Virginia Department of Education.
