The Radford City School Board is seeking a superintendent to lead the school division as it continues to pursue its mission: to provide a challenging atmosphere in which students prepare for success in life, develop a competitive spirit, and become responsible citizens. Radford City Schools has a strong tradition in its vision:  Excellence In Education…Every Student, Every Day.

Candidates must meet the legal requirements to be licensed or be eligible for licensure as a superintendent in Virginia. Central office administration and school principal leadership experience are preferred. A doctorate degree or progress toward a doctorate degree is preferred, but not required. A successful candidate will be required to live in Radford City within one year of contract negotiations.  The superintendent will begin their duties during the Spring semester of 2024.  Applications are due by midnight on November 27, 2023.

The Radford City School Board, with input from staff and the community, has identified qualities, skills and experiences needed for the next superintendent.  A successful candidate must demonstrate ability and success in (1) strong communication and effective team-building; (2) visibility and involvement in community activities; (3) visionary educational leadership; (4) fostering community and/or intergovernmental partnerships; (4) developing and implementing strategies to recruit, grow, and retain high-quality teachers; (5) communicating effectively within the school division and also externally throughout the region and state; (6) using his or her position to promote and advocate for the educational interests of the students, staff, and community at-large;  (7) being an instructional leader; (8) understanding budgeting and resource management to ensure continuation of quality teaching and learning processes; (9) leading by example to inspire others and instill confidence; and (10) embrace and advocate for the educational interests of a diverse population of students, staff, and community.

Bordered on three sides by the New River and neatly tucked into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Radford City features a picturesque setting for both residents and industry.  A small city offers big opportunities for economic growth, a rich culture, and a home-town feel.  Radford City is appealing to industry and business due to the close proximity to Interstate 81, Radford University, Virginia Tech, and New River Community College.

Radford City Public Schools is led by a School Board of five elected members. The Superintendent serves at the pleasure of the School Board and carries out the policies established by the School Board.
