October is VSBA Bullying Prevention Month

The VSBA Board of Directors has designated October 2024 as VSBA Bullying Prevention Month to promote awareness of school bullying. Childhood bullying is a significant problem nationwide and can contribute to increases in school absenteeism, mental and physical stress, poor school performance, low self-esteem, and in some cases, school violence. Statistics show bullying increases the risk of depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, lower academic achievement, and dropping out of school (Centers for Disease Control 2024).

School board members, superintendents, school leaders, teachers, administrators, and parents play a critical role in creating a climate where bullying is not tolerated. It has been proven that when adults and children stand together, bullying ends. Bullying Prevention Month is a great time to consider how you can help raise awareness about bullying and take action to stop it.

Dr. Cardell Patillo, VSBA President has provided a PSA to encourage participation in VSBA Bullying Prevention Month:
